Sam’s headshots

Between work and school, I find myself turning down nearly every request to do headshots. I’m usually on-set, and the question comes up, and I usually have a thousand things to do from then until the end of the quarter. Sam approached during dead week asking if I had any time. Fortunately (and uncharacteristically), I was able to squeeze it in during the downtime between the end of spring quarter and my move to New York. Here’s one from the quick shoot:

Party Face at Innate

For the past week or so, posted up all around town have been these posters for a ‘costume soireĆ©’ at Innate. I didn’t know what it was, but the art featured on the poster intrigued me. To my surprise, a friend of mine, Rhett Taylor, was helping publicize the event. He asked me to stop by and take some pictures if I got a chance.

It was insane. Innate was screen printing the artists’ work and selling shirts all night – right in the middle of the store. As time progressed, more and more people were wearing the same three or so designs. Spinning music up front, their DJ helped keep the atmosphere alive all night. The art was hung in the back showing area, and the promo video was being played on the ceiling

The End of Stock Photography

I currently work in an office with six graphic designers. One of them approached me last week, frustrated with trying to find stock photography. So, helping them with a project they were putting together, I took a trip out with one them to get the photos they needed. We drove out to Sedro Woolley, not too far South of Bellingham.

This location has always been a favorite of mine, and numerous other photographers as well (this time around I found a fresh callsheet with MM #s on it).

Tony&Guy Student Hair Show

A ‘friend-of-a-friend’ called me randomly asking if I could stop by the new Tony&Guy hairdressing salon. Apparently they were showcasing some of their student work in a fashion’esque presentation, and wanted some photographers to come and document the action. I was unsure what to expect in the beginning, but by the end I was quite impressed with some of the concepts the students had. From the sound of it, this’ll be a yearly event.

Nearly bursting at the seams, the attendance of the show must have been a few hundred. Given the venue, this left at least 2/3 of the attendees standing. It’s good to see things like this coming to Bellingham, and I can’t wait to see it grow even bigger.

The Whiskey Wailers

This is a shoot I have been excited to be involved with two months ago when it was first announced. Take THE WHISKEY WAILERS – a high energy rockabilly band from Bellingham, add a zombie theme and you get an amazing two day shoot at the Rouge Hero. There was even a guy on stilts who juggled a knife, flaming stick, and a severed arm. Where else could you possibly see something so crazy. Christian Saxton and Patrick Richard led the project, and I was impressed with how well they stuck to the schedule.

The day started off early, with the crew blacking out the half of the bar we were shooting in. About eight dozen beer bottles and various bones were scattered about the room. Once extras got to the location, costumes and makeup all done, the set was insane. Lights… fog… the smell of liquid latex.

Taking photos was a breeze – there was light everywhere, and smoke to help add to the mood. Everyone was having a great time, and with the energy the band brought to set, getting good stills was pretty easy. Quick note: other photographers that popped in and out throughout the shoot – Paul Isreal and Cassie Gallagher.
